- How the clause frames the UK
- Restricted countries list (3.4)

Curaçao casinos that accept UK players make a claim you can test, and the test is whether the operator holds a Gambling Commission licence, which a Curaçao licence is not. This page sets out what the law in Great Britain and Northern Ireland says, how to read a territory clause and what seven brands’ own terms say.
| What you see | What it shows | What it does not show |
|---|---|---|
| A sign-up form that takes a UK address | The registration screen has no block on that country | Permission to serve you, as the terms can still list the UK as excluded |
| A Curaçao licence in the footer | A licence from the Curaçao Gaming Authority, if its certificate page confirms it | Authorisation in Great Britain, which only a Gambling Commission operating licence gives |
| A company named in the terms | The legal company that holds your contract and your balance | A Gambling Commission licence, which only that company’s entry in the Commission’s register shows |
| A pound sterling balance | The cashier can hold or convert that currency | That the operator may offer gambling in Great Britain |
| A territory clause that names the UK | The operator’s own statement that UK residents or visitors are excluded | That the form, support staff or adverts will say the same |
Sources: the Gambling Commission, legislation.gov.uk and each brand’s own terms, read the way our methodology describes.
A registration form is software, and a UK entry in its drop-down means only that it can store a UK address. Permission sits in the terms, where the operator says who may use the service. The Gambling Commission says that anyone providing remote gambling to consumers in Great Britain needs its licence, and that a licence issued in another country does not permit it.
The Commission adds that illegal operators undermine consumer protections, and its licence conditions name some of them. An online slot takes a stake of no more than £5 per game cycle, or £2 from a player under 25. Since 19 January 2026 bonus wagering stops at 10 times the bonus, and credit cards are refused for gambling. Only the Commission’s licensees are bound by these rules.
Your contract is with a legal company, and the register entry that matters belongs to that company, not to the brand name. The Gambling Commission’s public register is searchable by business name, trading name, domain name or account number. Betway Limited, account 39372, shows a head office in Malta, an active remote casino licence and twelve listed domains, active, inactive and white-label. The same company-and-domain logic runs through every regulator, as our guide to online gambling licences compared shows.

Since 1 November 2014 the Gambling Act has reached providers abroad, so a server’s location settles nothing.
This page does not invite anyone in Great Britain to gamble with an operator that lacks a Gambling Commission licence, and it names brands only to report what their own terms say.
Under section 33 of the Gambling Act 2005 providing gambling facilities without an operating licence is an offence. For online gambling, section 36 applies that rule where the equipment is in Great Britain or, if none is, where the facilities are used there.
Most of the 2005 Act extends to England, Wales and Scotland only. Northern Ireland sits under the 1985 Order as amended in 2022, with no wider online reform. Section 5 of the Gambling (Licensing and Advertising) Act 2014 does apply: advertising unlicensed remote gambling there is an offence, with up to six months in prison and a level 5 fine.
| Question | Great Britain | Northern Ireland |
|---|---|---|
| Main statute | Gambling Act 2005, sections 33 and 36: providing facilities without an operating licence is an offence | 1985 Order as amended, as the 2005 Act mostly does not extend there |
| Licence that matters | Gambling Commission operating licence | Gambling Commission licence, for anyone advertising there |
| Advertising offence | Section 330: advertising unlawful gambling, with up to 51 weeks in prison in the Act and a level 5 fine; six months in Scotland, and magistrates in England and Wales can at present give at most six months for one offence | 2014 Act section 5: up to 6 months |
| Online licensing regime of its own | Yes, run by the Commission | No |
An ellipsis in a quote marks a cut country list. The UK entry is always kept.
| Brand | The UK clause in its terms | Operator named in the terms | Curaçao certificate | Register status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 7Bit Casino | 3.4 “Users from the following countries ... are not allowed to deposit and play real money games: ... United Kingdom ...” | Kika Technology B.V. | Active | Indefinite |
| BetFury | 3.3 “we do not permit accounts to be opened or used by customers resident in certain jurisdictions, including but not limited to: ... United Kingdom ...” | Universe B Games B.V. | Active | Assessment in progress |
| Bitstarz | 3.6 Worded as 7Bit's clause 3.4, with this UK entry: “... United Kingdom (including any overseas territories) ...” | Gareton B.V. | Active | Indefinite |
| Cloudbet | 7.1.3 “you are not physically located in any of the following countries: ... United Kingdom; ...” | Halcyon Super Holdings B.V. | Active | Assessment in progress |
| PlayAmo | 2.4 “Users from the following countries or regions are prohibited from using the Casino for real-money play: ... United Kingdom ...” | Saphirix Solutions SRL (Costa Rica), per its terms | Certificate names Kika Technology B.V., OGL/2023/147/0081, Active | Indefinite (Kika row) |
| Yep Casino | 4.4 “The Company does not permit accounts to be opened, deposits to be made, or services to be used from customers located in the following jurisdictions: ... Great Britain ... United Kingdom ...” | Nixxe B.V. | Active | Assessment in progress |
| Stake | 14.3 “Persons located in or reside in ... United Kingdom ... (the "Prohibited Jurisdictions") are not permitted make use of the Service.” | Medium Rare N.V. | No certificate found | Assessment in progress |

If the clause is broken BetFury “reserves the right to deny reactivation to Users residing in Restricted Jurisdictions”; 3.4 puts the legality check on the player (terms 7.4)

If the clause is broken The company may close accounts and void bets, bonuses and winnings (terms 12.7)

If the clause is broken The restriction “applies equally to residents and citizens of other nations while located in a Prohibited Jurisdiction”, and “Any attempt to circumvent the restrictions on play ... is a breach of this Agreement” (terms 14.3)

Find the company
Open the casino's terms and note the legal company, its registered address and any licence number.
Search the register
Search the Gambling Commission public register by business name, trading name, domain name or account number.
Read the record
It shows the account name, licence number and status, the activities with dates, and the domains marked Active, Inactive or White label.
Match what you found
Your domain must appear under the licensed company itself. If it does not, the register does not cover that site.
The register says the gambling business supplies its domain and trading names, and the Commission cannot guarantee information from third parties, so the cross-check runs both ways. The company in the terms should match the register account name, your domain should appear in that record, and the activities should include remote casino. An expired, revoked or surrendered status is a different answer from no record. Each record also carries a count of regulatory actions and a link for reporting an unlicensed business.
Terms do not always give a clear answer. Some Curaçao terms print a long restricted-countries list with no United Kingdom entry, which tells you only what the operator did not write: it shows no Gambling Commission licence, and the register entry still decides. Others point to “restricted jurisdictions” without a list, or word the clause differently in each site language. Treat those as unanswered and read the page the sign-up links to.
A group can run an international site under a Curaçao or Malta licence and a separate UK site run by a company that holds a Gambling Commission operating licence, often on a different domain. The register keeps one account per licensed company with its list of domains, which is how a UK site is told apart from its international sibling. Where an international site’s terms list the UK as excluded, as the seven above do, a UK product would be a different account with a different company.
Two groups licensed in Gibraltar split this way, and a third shows how the status of each domain matters inside a single account.
888casinoAccount 39028

UK accounts sit with 888 UK Limited, while the group's Gibraltar licensee serves customers outside the UK and the EU.
bet365Account 55149

The UK casino account is Hillside (UK Gaming) ENC, a Malta partnership, rather than the Gibraltar company.
LeoVegasAccount 39198

LeoVegas Gaming PLC lists leovegas.co.uk as Active and leovegas.com as Inactive.
“Resident” points to where you live and can be checked against documents. BetFury’s clause excludes customers “resident in certain jurisdictions”. “Located” points to where you are when you use the site, so travel and connection data count: Cloudbet asks that you are “not physically located” in a listed country. A restricted-countries list is the broadest form, and Stake’s clause uses both tests at once.
Five of the seven also ban masking your location, and each pairs the rule with a consequence. 7Bit (4.2), Bitstarz (4.3) and PlayAmo (3.2) say a VPN used to get round a block may lead to confiscated winnings, Yep Casino (12.7) says IP or geolocation masking is prohibited, and Stake (14.4) treats a VPN or proxy that disguises your location as a breach of its clause 5. None of it changes what the law asks of the operator.
Terms are the contract and the form is a tool, so a form that takes a UK address does not override an exclusion in the terms. If a mismatch worries you, save a copy of the terms and stop before depositing.
| How the clause is framed | What it turns on | Brands and clause |
|---|---|---|
| Restricted countries list | The user’s country, with no separate test of residence or presence | 7Bit Casino (3.4), Bitstarz (3.6), PlayAmo (2.4) |
| Resident in a listed place | Where you live, which documents can show | BetFury (3.3) |
| Located in a listed place | Where you are when you use the site, so travel and connection data count | Cloudbet (7.1.3), Yep Casino (4.4) |
| Located in or resident in | Both tests at once | Stake (14.3) |
Currency lists are payment settings. Bitstarz’s payments page lists Euro, US, Canadian, Australian and New Zealand dollars, Japanese yen, Norwegian krone and cryptocurrencies, yet its terms name the United Kingdom as restricted. A pound balance would be a conversion feature, not evidence of eligibility.
Card networks require gambling merchants to use merchant category code 7995, which Visa’s manual lists among high-integrity-risk codes, and UK banks use it for gambling blocks. HSBC blocks credit card gambling transactions automatically, Nationwide blocks those it knows or suspects are for gambling, Monzo blocks by code, Barclays imposes a 72-hour wait after a block is switched off and NatWest keeps its control in place for 48 hours. A decline is a reason to stop and review. The Commission lists how to block gambling transactions at each bank.
Read the territory clause in the terms version in force when you registered. Then gather the registration email, transaction history, accepted bonus terms and chat transcripts, and ask support in writing for a breakdown of deposits, winnings and bonus funds.
7Bit’s clause 3.2 reserves the right to verify residence during its KYC procedure, so a withdrawal can come with a request for identity or address proof, and false location details are themselves a breach. Cloudbet’s clause applies at all times on the site, withdrawal requests included, so your location at the time of a payout request counts as well.
PlayAmo says players violating its policy are not entitled to refunds or withdrawals. Bitstarz says it cannot guarantee that withdrawals or refunds will be processed. 7Bit says no refund is guaranteed but that it will apply reasonable measures to remit the funds, and its clause 3.3 voids winnings from bonuses taken by players from restricted countries. These are the operators’ statements, not rights that a UK regulator enforces for you.
Neither the Gambling Commission nor the Curaçao Gaming Authority resolves individual complaints. The Commission’s complaints guide describes the first route. The second is explained on the Curaçao gaming licence page. An approved ADR provider handles only Commission licensees.
Operator licensed by the Gambling Commission
Operator licensed only in Curaçao
No. Authorisation is a Gambling Commission operating licence for the operator's remote activity, and it appears on the public register with a status and an activity list. Sign-up forms, payment logos and offshore seals are separate claims that the register does not endorse.
No. A currency is a cashier setting, and cashiers can convert or hold many currencies. Who may play is set by the territory clause, and the terms of all seven casinos on this page exclude the United Kingdom, with Bitstarz adding its overseas territories.
Yes. Groups can run separate products, each with its own legal company, licence and domain list. The register's Active, Inactive and White label domain statuses show which domains a licensed company has declared, so match the domain you use to the company named.
The terms are the written rule, and some can change without warning. Yep Casino's clause 4.4 says its list of jurisdictions may be updated by the company at any time. Keep a copy of the terms version you saw and avoid depositing while the conflict stands.
Ask support in writing what the balance consists of and which clause applies, since some terms limit refunds. 7Bit's terms, for one, say no refund is guaranteed to a player found breaching its country policy. If gambling is causing money worries, GamCare's National Gambling Helpline is 0808 8020 133, free and open 24 hours, and National Debtline and StepChange run debt helplines.
It follows the licence. For Gambling Commission licensees, the Commission's LCCP requires a free referral to an approved ADR provider. For Curaçao-licensed accounts, the player complains to the operator within six months of the incident, and the terms must name the certified dispute bodies.
GamCare’s National Gambling Helpline, 0808 8020 133, is free, confidential and open 24 hours a day, by phone, live chat or WhatsApp. In Northern Ireland, Dunlewey runs a problem gambling helpline. GAMSTOP is the national self-exclusion scheme for UK-licensed operators. Our gambling support page lists tools and other services. Gambling is for over-18s only.
